Civil war, Hellenistic

2012
Civil war (Stasis), defined as war between parties claiming to be the legitimate members or rulers of a single political unit, was common in the Hellenistic period – in cities, leagues, and monarchies. This was a reflection of socio-economic, political, and cultural tensions and a factor that weakened the Greek world in its relations with Rome. Keywords: ancient Greece; classical civilization; government; politics, and law; Greek history; political history; social history
