Encephalopathy or Encephalitis-like Syndrome

1965
The recent publication of Gerald S. Golden, M.D. (Pediatrics, 36:67, 1965) entitled "encephalopathy and Fatty Change in the Liver and Kidney" describes the case of a child who died of encephalitic-like disease. I quote from his article: "Reports of a new syndrome, the chief manifestations of which are hypoglycorrhachia, disturbances of the state of consciousness, and vomiting, are reviewed and a case presented. The pathological manifestations are quite consistent and include massive fatty infiltration of the liver without necrosis, fatty changes in the epithelium of the proximal convoluted tubules of the kidney, and deposits of fat in the endothelium of many of the cerebral vessels.
