Full-wavefield inversion for acoustic wave velocity and attenuation

2013
Recovering viscoacoustic parameters from seismic data has the potential to improve our knowledge of subsurface physical properties such as fluid saturation and can lead to better reservoir characterization. Simultaneously reconstructing attenuation and wave velocity parameters has already been pursued in frequency-domain full-wavefield inversion methods where complex-valued velocities can direclty account for attenuation effects in the wave equation. In this work, we discuss a timedomain full-wavefield inversion method for simultaneously recovering seismic wave velocities and Q-factors by minimizing a regularized L1 norm of the misfit between measured and simulated wavefields.
