Problems of executing foundation laying works

1992
Execution of the work has a specific role in our field of activity. Even a well-organized execution cannot compensate for flaws and shortcomings in the specifications. A technology that has not been worked out, or has not been well selected, and lack of appropriate equipment may render even well planned projects impossible to execute. How many are the original foundation designs that could not be practiced on a larger scale due to complications related to technology and execution. Among such designs are, for instance, screw piles and piles with an exposed bearing foot, soil consolidation by the flame method, etc. It is for these very reasons that caissons are nowadays almost never used. Consequently, we cannot do without throwing due light on the problems of technology and execution of the foundation laying activities. This opening article in the section "Technology and Execution of Works" is an attempt to analyze the state of affairs in the sphere of execution of zero cycle specialized works and to select the priorities in technically improving the specialized construction organizations. — B.
