Digital Mucous Cyst

2017
Digital mucous cysts are benign cysts of the fingers and toes which are thought to occur due to degeneration of mucoid connective tissue. As a result, translucent round lesions form at the distal interphalangeal joints and proximal nail folds. They are usually asymptomatic but may cause nail deformities, reduced range of motion, or pain if the cyst enlarges. The most definitive treatment for digital mucous cysts is surgical excision, as other treatment options are associated with higher recurrence rates. More conservative approaches include incision and drainage, or cryotherapy, followed by monitoring.
