A known control structure for adjusting an electric camshaft adjuster has to reach the target Verstelldrehzahl at least one controller, the control signals for the adjusting generated from measurement signals of the engine. Within a cascade control (1), the phase position and by means of a Verstellgeschwindigkeitsreglers (30) is controlled, the adjustment of the phase position of the camshaft relative to the crankshaft by means of a position controller (20). By means of a further adjusting device (40) of the current (15) through the electro-dynamic brake is set. For improving the control behavior of the cascade regulation (1) pilot controls are used. The invention is particularly suitable for an electro-dynamic brake of an electric camshaft adjuster of a cam shaft of an internal combustion engine.
