Malaysian Medical License Examination (MMLE): Is This A Way Forward?

2017
The medical education in Malaysia is facing challenges related to increasing numbers of local private and foreign medical Universities. The challenge is to address whether the system is producing doctors who have adequate competencies for a fundamental patient-centred care. Malaysian Medical Licensing Examination (MMLE) was proposed by the ministry of health (MOH) as a common licensing examination for all graduates prior to obtaining registration to practice. Currently this exam is undertaken by the Malaysian students graduating in foreign medical colleges. However, the Malaysian local universities have different curriculum preparing the undergraduates for future houseman ship. The question is whether the educational program of these Universities is robust in delivering the curriculum in line with the outcomes. Moving forward, the debate is the need for extending the Malaysian Medical Licensing Examination (MMLE) for all the graduates from local and foreign medical Universities.
