Smoking cessation in pregnancy: a multiple contact approach

1997
This article introduces a research project currently in progress to assess the effectiveness of multiple contact support as an intervention measure in smoking cessation among pregnant women. Little work has been done to confirm or dispute this method as an effective means of supporting pregnant women although the literature recognizes that it may well be appropriate. The study, involving 200 women, reflects the work of Prochaska et al (1994) in their stages of change approach and aims to bring about a positive change in smoking status which will be maintained after delivery of the infant.
