Wide-band Ti:LiNbO3 optical modulators with reduced microwave attenuation

We report the development of very low microwave attenuation CPW (coplanar waveguide) electrode structures (/spl alpha//sub 0/ of the order of 0.3 dB/cm (GHz)/sup 1/2/) and practical realization of fully-connectorized Ti:LiNbO/sub 3/ optical modulators with band widths of 32 GHz and 26 GHz (dB, electrical) and DC driving voltages of 4.3 V and 3.3 V respectively at 1.552 /spl mu/m.
