4.2: Polymer Network-Stabilized Monostable FLCDs Using Cholesteric-Chiral Smectic C Phase Transition Material
2001
In this paper, we propose a polymer network-stabilized mono-stable FLCDs using Ch-SC* phase transition material. We have confirmed mono-domain characteristics had been kept stable throughout the cycle of temperature transition; from SC* phase to the isotropic phase or Ch phase and back to the SC* phase. This method is quite effective to prevent undesirable generation of random two domains under the thermal treatments. So, additional alignment process that makes mono-domain phase by a DC field is no more necessary. We investigated its EO properties and developed the prototype 14.1″ diagonal full-color display for practical use, the performance of which is reported.
