A Special Education Teacher’s Reflection: Gibbs Reflective Cycle

Zero Reject Policy (ZRP) is the approach aligns with the No children Left behind NCLB (2001) Act,that focuses on all special needs students (SNS) to access education. This intention aligns with theMalaysia Education Blueprint 2013-2015 provided for the education of all children in Malaysia.Increasing special need student (SNS) enrolment across the country indicates that the policy iswelcomed. However, a special need teacher is addressed directly to students and must becompetent and ready to deliver a better education. Therefore, this paper discusses a special needteacher’s relection in undergoing master study in measurement and evaluation field from thebeginning till the end. This reflection is based on Gibbs’ Reflective Learning Cycle of 6 stagesnamely description of the event, feelings, evaluation, analysis, conclusion and action. Besides, thispaper focuses on the procedure of using Gibbs’ cycle to develop sefl-reflection in the effort toimprove herself before, during and after her study. This reflection also will elaborate on the writer’sview of the future for the purpose of self-improvement. It can be concluded that self -perseverance isnot the only catalyst of success, but it also shapes characters such as self-awakening, handlingchallenges wisely and do not easily on life’s problems.
