Surgical Management of the Renal Transplant Recipient

Abstract Kidney transplantation is now the standard of care for properly selected patients with end-stage renal disease. Successful transplantation provides remarkable improvement in quality of life and decreases recipient mortality compared with maintenance dialysis. Evaluation and management of the kidney transplant recipient requires active collaboration between diverse professionals with specific skills, and each is critical to achieve optimal outcomes.
