Synthesis and surfactant properties of fluoroalkylated acrylic acid co-oligomers containing dimethylsilicone segments as potential inhibitors of HIV-1

Abstract New fluoroalkylated acrylic acid co-oligomers containing dimethylsilicone segments have been prepared by the reactions of fluoroalkanoyl peroxides with acrylic acid and dimethylsilicones possessing one vinyl or one methacryloxypropyl end-group under very mild conditions. It was demonstrated that the fluorosilicone co-oligomers obtained are soluble not only in water but also in common organic solvents. Furthermore, these co-oligomers were shown to be able to reduce the surface tension of water and m -xylene effectively, and to exhibit a strong oleophobic property on their surfaces though possessing oleophilic dimethylsilicone chains. These fluorosilicone co-oligomers, especially the methacryloxypropyl- type co-oligomers were found to be potent and selective inhibitors of human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV-1) in vitro.
