Dynamic models for the control of a highly exothermic packed bed reactor

Several levels of models involving one and two dimensions as well as single and multiple phases are used to predict the dynamic behavior of a packed bed reactor for the partial oxidation of methanol to formaldehyde. The model predictions are compared with data from pilot plant reactors and the relative merits of the various models for control system design are discussed. 5 figures.
