Experimental Evidence for the Influence of Atomic Binding on the Decay Rate of Negative Muons

In order to make precise determinations of the rate of nuclear capture of muons for the disappearance of muons, the ratio R = LAMBDA /sub dec/(Z)/ LAMBDA /sub dec/(O) was measured directiy for a variety of elements. Some preliminary results are given. (W.D.M.)
