CATAMARANS ... FIND WORLDWIDE DEMAND FOR THEIR STABILITY, ECONOMY AND SPEED

Det norske Veritas has been actively involved in catamaran evolution since 1970 when Westmarin A/S introduced its first asymmetric hulled Westamaran passenger craft. This article reviews the commercial successes of catamarans in the 1970s, examines their current design and use, and forecasts some new construction techniques and operational trends.
