A Study on Stochastic Storm Surge Estimation for Risk Management in Insurance Systems

Stochastic storm surge evaluation is needed for risk management in insurance systems. However, analyzing enormous storm surge events finely is not realistic because of the immense efforts required. This study, based on stochastic approach, estimated storm surge inundation due to events which may cause economic loss along Tokyo bay. By analyzing the events that would cause damage to property along Tokyo Bay, using empirical formula and numerical analysis, we calculated the storm surges due to typhoons for 10,000 years with little computational loads.
