Preparing to Fuel With Biodiesel

2006
Researchers at the University of Missouri have documented the use of biodiesel as a fuel for diesel engines since 1991. Over 1,000,000 have been logged on pickup trucks, trucks, buses, and tractors. Blends ranging from one percent biodiesel to 100 percent biodiesel have been used. These biodiesel demonstrations have been successful largely due to the planning that MU researchers have followed each time a vehicle has been converted to biodiesel fueling. This paper summarizes the techniques that have been used and concludes with a set of phase-in guidelines which were developed for the most recent MU project that involved fueling trucks for the South Dakota State Department of Transportation with a B5 blend of petroleum diesel fuel and biodiesel.
