Building technical knowledge. Men who have sex with men.

2001
Although HIV prevention programs addressing men who have sex with men (MSM) are vitally important they are often seriously neglected. It is noted that HIV prevalence rates among MSM are among the highest in any population worldwide with at least 5-10% of all HIV cases due to sexual transmission between men. However governments and donors have not prioritized MSM in their HIV/AIDS prevention care and support programs leaving community based organizations without the adequate response. This is because of several reasons including relative invisibility or stigmatization of MSM in many societies ignorance lack or information or political unwillingness to honestly address the issue. The Joint UN Programme on HIV/AIDS and its co-sponsors can in many cases do much to address the obstacles facing HIV prevention and care programs for MSM. There are many HIV/AIDS programs in developing countries aimed at MSM. Examples of these are the Association marocaine de lutte contre le SIDA in Morocco and AIDS Concern in Hong Kong.
