SYNTHESIS AND STRUCTURE OF A BINUCLEAR Pd(II) CHLORANILATE COMPLEX

2021
A binuclear complex of palladium (Et3NH)2[Pd2(ca)2(μ-Cl)2]·2CH3CN is synthesized by ligand-exchange reaction between [PdCl2(PhCN)2] and (Et3NH)2ca (ca2– = chloranilate) taken in a 1:1 molar ratio. Its crystal structure is determined. Chloranilate ca2– dianion is coordinated to Pd(II) as C-donor bidentate ligand. Using cyclic voltammetry (CV) of the complex in CH3CN, non-reversible oxidation at Ea = 1.58 V and quasi-reversible reduction with Eb = –0.80 V and Ea = –0.54 V (relative to Ag/AgCl) is found. The electron structure of the complex is examined.
