Identifying and Mapping the Scientific Landscape ofInternational Marketing Studies

This paper aims to explore the theoreticalessentials of knowledge production of internationalmarketing studies, from a dataset of 682 journalarticles. A computer-aided co-citation networkanalysis of 15,960 citations that have beenmeticulously voted by over than ten-thousands ofauthors traces the historical timeline of thedevelopment paths of international marketing studies.We ranked overall first author citations, articlecitations and journal citations for ten-year period,1997–2006. Using network analysis, we mapped theco-citation network and analyzed the centrality of top30 articles from 1997 to 2006. This study maps aninvisible network of knowledge of internationalmarketing studies, the results of the mapping can helpidentify the research direction of internationalmarketing studies and provide a valuable tool forresearchers to access the literature in this area.
