Junípero Serra and Thomas Starr King: California's Statuary Monuments in Washington, D.C.

1993
ALTHOUGH ues or monuments created to honor Presidents George Washington, Tho as Jefferson, and Abraham Lincoln in Washington, D.C, few would recognize Statuary Hall, a national shrine, in the nation's capitol. There can be seen bronze and marble statues of those who provided outstanding public service to their respective states. In 1864 the former chamber of the United States House of Representatives was set aside as National Statuary Hall to which each state was invited to send statues of its most distinguished deceased citizens.1
