Antenna far-field prediction using restricted IDM based convex optimization

2017
There are near-field and far-field measurements for the radiation field of antennas. Measuring the far-field pattern of an antenna requires huge measuring equipment, which is more difficult than measuring near-field radiation. In addition, calculation of the far-field radiation pattern is inevitable in the calculation of some parameters such as radar cross section. A method for predicting the far-field through near-field data using infinitesimal dipole modeling (IDM) is described in this paper. We also implemented IDM using convex optimization, which is a kind of deterministic algorithm. As a result, modeling can be performed more efficiently than IDM using the meta-heuristic algorithm. From the simulation results, we can confirm the tendency of the modeling accuracy change according to the near-field measurement condition.
