Primer intent de mesurar l'edat del compartiment marí de 14C de les aigües costaneres de les illes Balears

catalaLa concentracio del 14C a l’ocea es diferent a la que presenta aquest isotop a l’atmosfera. Per tant, s’ha de tenir en compte aquest factor a l’hora de realitzar la datacio radiocarbonica de mostres de procedencia marina. Aixo significa que es necessari coneixer el valor regional del compartiment mari de 14C al moment en que l’organisme datat vivia. S’ha realitzat un primer intent de calcular la concentracio de 14C de les aigues costaneres de les Balears, per al qual s’han fet servir materials de les excavacions arqueologiques del Pla de ses Figueres (Cabrera) i de Bo- quer (Pollenca). Ambdos jaciments presenten acumulacions de murex relacionades amb la produccio de purpura durant l’Antiguitat. Aixi, s’han datat mostres d’aquests mol·luscs marins i, d’altra banda, mostres ossies d’herbivors domestics procedents, en els casos en que ha estat possible, dels mateixos contextos. Els materials del Pla des ses Figueres han revelat l’existencia de processos postdeposicionals que han afectat la integritat dels ossos. En canvi, les mostres de Boquer han permes realitzar per primera vegada el calcul de l’edat del compartiment mari de 14C de les aigues costaneres de les Balears. El resultat es semblant a la mitjana mundial. EnglishThe concentration of the 14C in the ocean is different to the one of the atmosphere. This issue has to be taken into account when a radiocarbon date is performed on samples with a marine origin. It is necessary to know the 14C value of the regional marine reservoir at the time the organism was alive. A first attempt to measure the 14C concentration of the coastal waters of the Balearic Islands has been made using material from the archaeological sites of Pla de ses Figueres (Cabrera) and Boquer (Pollenca). Murex accumulations have been recorded in both of them, related to purple dye production in Antiquity. Samples of these mollusks together with domestic herbivore bones from the same contextual assemblages, when possible, have been dated. The materials from Pla de ses Figueres have revealed the existence of postdepositional processes which affected the integrity of the bones. Otherwise, the Boquer samples have made it possible to measure for the first time the 14C marine reservoir age of the coastal waters of the Balearic Islands. The result is close to the world average.
