Study of Resistance to Digital Applications in Healthcare Organizations

2017
Although standardization is considered essential to ensure the interoperability of health information systems, the enormous number of available standards can make the decision-making process very difficult for patients. E-Health is facing different types of resistance that can hinder its adoption by dependent older people. This paper presents a study of the development of standards for E-Health, and identifies three groups of non-adopters of e-health technology: postponers, opponents and critics. The latter also consists of two groups, namely, patients and families of patients. Therefore, we explored the factors that impede the adoption of standards for E-Health and that provide some approaches to overcome these resistance hindrances.
