Extensive skin necrosis in Churg-Strauss syndrome with pulmonary thromboembolism

Churg-Stauss syndrome (CSS) is a systemic vasculitis, characterized by asthma, blood and tissue eosionophilia and diffuse organ involvement. A 70-year-old woman with a 2-year history of bronchial asthma was admitted because of extensive hemorrhagic bullae and necrosis on both lower extremities, buttocks and trunk, tingling sensation on both lower legs. She showed eosinophilia, p-ANCA(+) and histopathologically leukocytoclastic vasculitits, peripheral mononeuropathy, chronic sinusitis. She experienced episodic syncope and dizziness in hospital days. Spiral CT of chest showed pulmonary thromboembolism.nShe was diagnosed as Churg-Stauss syndrome with pulmonary thromboembolism, received high dose prednisolone, cyclophosphamide, thrombolytic and anticoagulation therapy. And her clinical findings were improved.(Korean J Med 70:S358-S362, 2006)
