Analysis of Flow and Turbulence Structure for Rectangular Floating Breakwater

2005
Recently floating breakwater system is developed and investigated to overcome the problems of existing breakwater system. Since it is difficult to investigate the flow and turbulence structure around floating breakwater, the studies of floating break-water have been focused on the issues of wave reflection, wave transmission, permeability, and the safety of a structure. In view of the water quality or the environment in the sea, it is important to evaluate the flow and turbulence structure around the floating breakwater. The purpose of this study is to understand the mechanism of the flow and turbulence structure induced by the wave interaction with the floating breakwater. The results of numerical modeling combined with the VOF method and turbulence model based RANS(Reynolds averaged Wavier-Stokes) equation were compared to the experimental results with Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV). It has been concluded that the numerical modeling presents well the vortices and turbulence generated at the corner of a structure by the flow separation.
