Radiophotoluminescence from Ag-doped alkali-phosphate glass in real time, during irradiation with a LINAC x-ray beam: A comparison of simulations and experiment

2020
Abstract A model for RPL emission from Ag-doped alkali phosphate glasses is examined in which the RPL is emitted from Ag2+-pairs and Ag2+ ions. Simultaneous, non-linear, differential rate equations are introduced to describe the flow of charge during irradiation using this model, including the interaction between Ag+ and Ag0 centers to form Ag2+-pairs. The simulation results show that the RPL centers grow nonlinearly during irradiation due to the effect of the build-up process. The simulations are compared with experimental real-time measurements of RPL emission, both during and immediately after irradiation. The conclusion is reached that the model examined is able to qualitatively describe the experimental results.
