When undertaking leg lengthening, there are three aims: i. To achieve significant increases of between 10 percent or more of the original length; the limb may be smaller than the normal limb in all dimensions, and new tissue needs to be created in all the structures of the limb. ii. To minimise temporary morbidity. iii. To prevent permanent loss of function.
