Digital Media” is a fast-developing arena in the past decade. Its interdisciplinary nature and its close affinity with information science and cultural industries have attracted the attention of both the academia and the private sector. However, the academia so far has not accorded digital media disciplinary status, giving rise to the stark contrast between insufficient theorizing attempts by researchers and spectacular growth in its creative use by artists and relevant professionals. To stimulate further prosperity in the private sector spurred by its use and provide for enduring power and productivity to cultural production, we need to study its future trends and establish it as a discipline, define its concepts, basic categories, research objects, and determine its disciplinary framework. In constructing its disciplinary system, we need to elaborate on its base in art and computer science, and absorb relevant elements from other disciplines such as economics, education, philosophy, cultural studies. We need also deal with the current concerns of the private as well as the academic sectors, and in our research cover in depth the form and content of ”digital media.”
