Forest Investment Account - Forest Science Program

2008
The main objectives of this project were to provide easily accessible aspen growth and yield information, increase awareness and knowledge of boreal mixedwood stand dynamics, and support the development of growth and yield estimates for boreal mixedwood forests. Over the three year period, these key objectives were accomplished through: Incorporation of TASS II aspen yield table estimates into the widely used growth and yield software TIPSY. Best available information on the growth of spruce and lodgepole pine in relation to understorey light within boreal mixedwood stands was compiled and summarized. New data was collected through initiating field case studies to address information gaps in the current knowledge on pine and aspen growth relationships. And, the development and calibration of the TASS III complex stand model for boreal mixedwoods was supported through data acquisition, knowledge compilation, and the building of advanced software tools.
