A NEW METHOD FOR PARTICLE SHAPE DETERMINATION

For a perfect geotechnical characterization of rocks and a better understanding of their behaviour, the shape of their natural constituting grains or the artificially induced fragments are very important and a new method for this determination is presented. An analysis of the existing particle shape determination methods shows that the majority of processes now used are very laborious and are associated with the operator's subjectivity if the instrumentation employed is simple, or, if more specific instruments are used, the resulting data are only of a qualitative nature. The simple, rapid and exact new method aims at eliminating the operator's subjectivity and furnishes data of a quantitative nature.
