Surge Immunity Protection in AC LED Street Lights

Surge protection for LED street light systems connected to AC power system is necessary to prevent damage and increase long life. In this paper, a study on Class-2 AC based LED street light modules of same capacity are carried out wherein one module has compatible surge protection device and the other does not contain compatible protection device. Experimental results show that, choosing proper and compatible SPD while designing the LED controller for AC based street light modules is necessary for surge immunity protection.
