Online monitoring and detection techniques of XLPE cables

Various XLPE cable online monitoring and detection techniques were reviewed,including main insulation online monitoring(DC component method,DC superposition,low frequency superposition,tangent of dielectric loss angle method and PD online monitoring);metallic shield online monitoring(capacitive and general earthing currents method and integrated metallic shield monitoring);temperature online detection and cable terminal IR and UV detection.The principles of these techniques were described.The advantage disadvantage and applications of different methods were analyzed.The effective and practical online detection methods of power cables were summarized and recommended.
