MESHLESS METHOD AND ITS APPLICATION TO BULK METAL FORMING

Conventional finite element analysis of bulk metal forming is often inefficient due to severe mesh distortion.As a new numerical computational method, the meshless approximation is of advantage in dealing with large deformation problems in which the domain is discretized in terms of independent nodes.The displacement field is interpolated without the aid of an explicit mesh,which ensures the field is continuous in the domain.At the same time, this method makes the post processing easy and accurate.In this paper the principle of meshless method is briefly introduced,including the approximation of the displacement field,the integral methods and enforcing the boundary conditions.The paper concludes with a sample calculation of cylinder upsetting, and the simulation was conducted with DEFORM 2D . The two different results agree well. The method is proved to be practicable.
