Chapter 28 Petroleum systems and forecasting the largest oil and gas fields in the offshore Russian Arctic basins

2011
Abstract The approaches to the identification of petroleum systems and their possible use for forecasting the largest oil and gas fields in the offshore Russian Arctic are described. The significance of petroleum systems for forecasting at regional and local levels, using internal standards allowing determination of the size rank of free gas or liquid hydrocarbon fields in oil–gas complexes, are illustrated by examples from the Timan–Pechora and Barents–Kara oil–gas provinces.
