The invention discloses a preparation method for a cathode material of a high-nickel lithium ion battery. The preparation method comprises the steps as follows: weighing a lithium source compound, a nickel source compound and an M source compound according to a stoichiometric equation of Li1+xNiyM1-x-yO2, adding into a mixer at the same time, uniformly mixing, placing a uniform mixture into a corundum sagger, and sintering at high temperature in an air or oxygen atmosphere by a mashing process; adding ground Li1+xNiyM1-x-yO2 and a liquid medium into a transfer groove for stirring and washing, adding slurry into a pressure filter for filtering, drying by microwaves, grinding and grading to obtain Li1+xNiyM1-x-yO2 as a final product. The cathode material prepared with the method is uniform in grain distribution, low in pH value, low in impurity content, high in specific capacity and good in cycle performance, and is suitable for industrial continuous production.
