The method includes a, sending position request messages to at least one positioning device in a parking lot from the location of a car; b, receiving returned messages, comprising position information of at least one positioning device and signal strength of the position request messages detected by at least one positioning device, from at least one positioning device; and c, acquiring free parking space information according to the position information of at least one positioning device and the signal strength. The step a, the step b and the step c are operated based on a wireless communication protocol. According to the method, the problem that whether park spaces are taken or not cannot be detected accurately and reliably in the prior art can be solved.
