A Clinical Study of Beiqi Oral Liquid Co.for Stroke in Convalescent Stage

A randomized double_blinded controlled trial was applied to study the effect of Beiqi Oral Liquid Co.,a preparation with actions of tonifying Qi and blood,reinforcing spleen and kidney,for stroke in convalescent stage.One hundred and three cases were randomly allocated to Group Ⅰ (treated with Hua Tuo Rebuilding Pill and placebo for one month) and Group Ⅱ (treated with Beiqi Oral Liquid Co.and placebo for one month).The results showed that the total effective rate in Group Ⅱ was 94.12%, which is similar to Group I (P 0.05 ).Symptoms such as dry throat with bitter taste and irritability were more markedly relieved in Group ll as compared with Group I (P 0.05 ).The effects on blood rheology,RBC superoxide dismutase and plasma malondialdehyde contents were similar in the two groups (P 0.05 ).Damages of heart,liver and kidney were not found in both groups.Adverse effects such as dry throat with bitter taste,irritability,nightmare,insomnia,constipation and anorexia appeared in some cases of Group I but none in Group II.It is suggested that Beiqi Oral Liquid Co.and Hua Tuo Rebuilding Pill possess the similar effect in the treatment of stroke in convalesent stage,but the former is more suitable for those cases with heat syndrome due to Yin deficiency.
