2012
The prevalence of early disorders of carbohydrate metabolism (PEDCM) was estimated among 97 patients presenting with acromegaly at the age from 47.5 to 64.5 (mean 56.0) years; the duration of acromegaly varied from 7.5 to 20.25 (mean 13.0) years. In 24 patients, diabetes mellitus (DM) was diagnosed before acromegaly. OGTT was used to diagnose DM and PEDCM in 73 patients. The prevalence of REDCM was estimated at 25.8% which is higher than their prevalence among the general population of the Moscow region (MR) and worldwide (17.7% and 6.4% respectively). REDCM in women occurred more frequently than in men (35.6% versus 28.5%). REDCM were especially common in the age group of 20-35 years (44%). Their prevalence decreased to 32.5% among the subjects aged 36-45 years and remained at this level in elder age groups. The frequency of REDCM amounted to 26.1% in the controlled phase of acromegly and to 38.0% in the uncontrolled phase (p early disorders of carbohydrate metabolism among the patients presenting with acromegaly is higher than in the general population of the Moscow region and throughout the world; it depends on the age and sex of the patients as well as on the duration and activity of the disease.
