Epitaxial cobalt films on W(110) : an experimental and theoretical photoemission study with polarized synchrotron radiation

2000
We report on valence band photoemission data taken at the storage ring BESSY I in the photon energy range between 20 and 31 eV with linearly polarized radiation from thin cobalt films on W(110). The experimental results clearly show different photoelectron intensities when reversing the magnetization direction. This phenomenon is called magnetic linear dichroism in the angular distribution of photoelectrons (MLDAD). The energetic dependence of the observed MLDAD effect is discussed with respect to new fully relativistic band structure and photoemission calculations.
