Age at menarche: a new method of prediction and retrospective assessment based on hand x-rays.

use of the above methods have led to the use of various transforms, logits, and probits (Oettle and Higginson, 1961) but that approach, while alleviating the problem of skewed data, does not provide a system for determining age at menarche without previous information. Therefore, we propose a method of assessing age at menarche based on: (a) the relationship between the age of appearance of the adductor sesamoid of the thumb and age at menarche, and (b) the relationship between the age of fusion of the epiphysis of the distal phalange of the index finger (distal II) and age at menarche. The use of the adductor sesamoid as a predictor of menarcheal age
