Participants' perspectives of self-collected anal cytological swabs
2011
Although our study investigated a range of perspectives e.g. acceptability, ease and potential hurts, a weakness of our study is that we did not include a question asking about participant's willingness to repeat the test. Clearly, further research is needed to gain an understanding of the barriers to self-collection for clinical and non-clinical settings. However, self-collected anal specimens offer the potential for greater privacy, and the opportunity for collection at home. They could potentially play an important role in future screening programs.
