Productivity of kharif crops as influenced by planting time under dryland conditions

In rainfed trials in the kharif [monsoon] seasons of 1977-9 with 5 crops sown on 4 dates between 20 June and 5 Aug., pearl millet outyielded sorghum at all sowing dates, their highest yields being in crops sown on 20 June. Soyabean gave higher net profit than redgram [Cajanus cajan] or blackgram [Vigna mungo]. Yields were highest in C. cajan sown on 20 June, in V.mungo sown on 20 July and in soyabean sown from 20 June to 20 July
