Epidemiological study on intrauterine HBV infection.

2010
Objective To observe the rate of intrauterine infection with hepatitis B virus and evaluate the efficacy of injection of HBIG.Methods An epidemiological investigation was conducted with mothers(318) positive for hepatitis B surface antigen(HBsAg) and their newborns(324) at Jinan Maternal and Child Health Hospital. Results The rate of intrauterine infection with hepatitis B virus was 17.59%(57/324).The rate of intrauterine infection among newborns whose mothers were injected with HBIG was 9.76%(16/164);the rate of intrauterine infection among newborns whose mothers who were not injected with HBIG was 25.63%(41/160).The difference between the two groups was significant. Conclusion Injection of HBIG had a role in protecting newborns from HBV intrauterine infection.
