We are not impressed

On the 21st of February, 1978, Walter Mirisch, Academy President, announced the 1977 nominations for the 50th Annual Academy Awards. Close Encounters of the Third Kind, ox CE3K, as it is popularly referred to, was nominated for no less than seven categories - Best Director, Best Art Direction, Best Cinematography, Best Film Editing, Best Original Music Score, Best Achievement in Sound, and Best Achievement in Visual Effects. To date the film has grossed more than $76,000,000 in America alone, and by Easter, it will be on 670 screens in 529 cities in 19 countries. That's what you call big business.
