The morphological features of criss cross heart and surgical treatment

2011
Objective:To study the relationship between the morphological features of criss cross heart and the surgical procedures Methods:Review the clinical data of nine patients with criss cross heart, including their morphological features and their surgical procedures. They were operated on from May.1996 to Oct.2009.There were 6 males and 3 females.Their age ranged from 0.4y to 7y and their body weight ranged from 6kg to 25kg.Results:The visceroatrial situs was solitus in 8 patients and was inversus in 1.The atrioventricular connections were concordant in 7 patients and discordant in 2.Ventriculoarterial connections were discordant in 6 patients and cordant in 3.Atrioventricular valve malformation was found in 4 patients, pulmonary valve stenosis or subpulmonary valve stenosis was found in 8 and a large ventricular septal defect was fond in all patients. The surgical procedures were included VSD repair in 1 patient, bidirectional One patient was complicated with chylothorax and one patient was complicated with pleural effusion after total cavopulmonary connection. Both of chylothorax and pleural effusion were cured. Conclusions:There were a variety of morphological features in criss cross heart. The surgical procedures should be decided depending on their morphological features.Bidirectional Glenn or total cavopulmonary connection is an alterative procedure for criss cross heart.
