Tomografía computada multidetector de arterias coronarias: estado del arte. Parte II: Aplicaciones clínicas

2008
SummaryM ULTIDETECTOR C OMPUTED T OMOGRAPHY OF C ORONARY A RTERIES : STATE OF THE ART . S ECOND P ART : C LINICAL A PPLICATIONS At the beginning of the evaluation of CoronaryArtery Disease (CAD), Coronary MultidetectorComputed Tomography (MDCT) was exclusivelyused to detect calcified plaques in coronary ar-teries through the Calcium Score, whose valueby itself is limited. Nowadays, thanks to the tech-nological advancements, potential clinical ap-plications, with this method, include detectionof coronary arterial stenosis, assessment of cor-onary bridges, and evaluation of anomalouscoronaries. The intraluminal coronary stent eval-uation is not possible yet, but this might becomepossible with the new-generation scanners. Atthe moment, the published results seem to bepromising, nonetheless, the enthusiasm gener-ated by this method should be accompanied byadequate training, as well as by its validationand certification.(Arch Cardiol Mex 2008; 78: 195-209) AVANCES TECNOLOGICOS medigraphic Artemisa
