Enjoying our local biodiversity : BotSoc partnerships and projects

In 2002 a group of children approached a local NGO, Indigo development & change, in Nieuwoudtville, enquiring why there were no specific activities for children to get out into nature. A workshop with the children was immediately arranged and the Eco Club was founded. With funding from Conservation International and later from SANBI's CREW, the first activities were planned and two local biodiversity facilitators were employed. Over nearly a decade the Eco Club in Nieuwoudtville has grown and overcome many challenges, becoming an institution that is rooted in the local community.
