Parental mediation of children’s media use can counteract potential effects of negative media content (e.g., violent media, gender stereotypes) and facilitate or enhance the benefits of educational media. This commentary discusses several issues related to parental mediation that enhances the value of educational media: the nature of such mediation, how it compares across different types of media, and how media can best be designed to promote such mediation.
